Dutch Cargo in October:

Biketober Launch, E-Bike Expo, Ride2Work Day & Seniors Week

October is shaping up to be an exciting month for cycling in Melbourne, with a calendar full of community events, rides, and workshops. From the launch of Biketober to the Brunswick Velodrome E-Bike Expo, Ride2Work/School Day, and a Seniors Week workshop, there’s something for every rider — whether you’re new to bikes, a daily commuter, or rediscovering the joy of riding in retirement.

At Dutch Cargo, we’re proud to be part of all four major events this October, showcasing the best of e-bikes and cargo bikes and helping more people experience their freedom, flexibility, and fun.

Event 1: Biketober Launch Event — Thursday 2 October, 12–1:30pm

The month kicks off with the Biketober Launch Event hosted by the City of Kingston.

📍 Location: Bay Trail, Mentone (check City of Kingston website for exact details)
🕛 Time: 12:00–1:30pm
📽️ Highlight: Screening of Cycling Without Age documentary

This event sets the tone for the entire month. Biketober is a national challenge encouraging everyone to ride in October — anywhere, anytime, for any reason. The goal is simple: make cycling more visible, social, and rewarding.

What’s Happening at the Launch

Film screening — Cycling Without Age: A moving documentary about the power of cycling at every stage of life. It follows John, a retired teacher, and his volunteer team giving joyrides to seniors on pedal-powered rickshaws, proving you’re never too old to feel the wind in your hair.

Showcasing new e-bikes: Dutch Cargo will be on hand to introduce the latest models, with a focus on how they make cycling more inclusive and accessible.

Free bike tune-ups: Local mechanics from Brainwaves Bikes will help riders get their bikes spring-ready.

Prizes & giveaways: All participants go into the draw for cash prizes, holidays, t-shirts, and more as part of the Biketober challenge.

Refreshments & community connection: Light snacks and plenty of opportunities to meet fellow riders.

The launch event is a great chance for newcomers to dip a toe into cycling and for seasoned riders to start October with inspiration.

Event 2: Brunswick Velodrome E-Bike Expo — Saturday 4 October

Next up is the Brunswick Velodrome E-Bike Expo, one of Melbourne’s most anticipated cycling showcases.

📍 Location: Brunswick Velodrome
🗓️ Date: Saturday 4 October

This expo brings together Australia’s top e-bike and cargo bike brands in one place, offering the ultimate chance to test, compare, and learn.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It

Test rides on the Velodrome: A safe, closed track perfect for experiencing e-bikes and cargo bikes at your own pace.

Cargo bike demonstrations: From family carriers to business flatbeds, see how versatile these bikes really are.

Expert advice: Our Dutch Cargo team will be there to answer questions and match you with the right model.

One-stop comparison: Instead of visiting multiple shops, you can try everything in a single afternoon.

If you’ve ever wondered whether an e-bike could replace your car, this is your chance to find out.

Event 3: Ride2Work & Ride2School Day — Wednesday 15 October, 7:15–8:45am

Mid-month, we’ll be part of Ride2Work/School Day in Mentone.

📍 Location: Bay Trail, Mentone (Dixon Street parking lot opposite St Bede’s)
🕖 Time: 7:15–8:45am

Later on October 15, Dutch Cargo heads to Hampton Community Centre for a special workshop during Seniors Week.

📍 Location: Hampton Community Centre

Cargo options handle shopping, pets, or grandchildren.
