Refund policy
Refund and Return Policy
Last updated: 20 July 2026
Important: Dutch Cargo Bike Australia does not offer change-of-mind returns, refunds or exchanges on complete bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes or trikes. Nothing in this policy limits rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
This Refund and Return Policy applies to products purchased from Dutch Cargo Bike Australia online, by telephone, by email or at our premises. Consumer guarantees apply automatically and cannot be excluded, restricted or modified by this policy, a manufacturer warranty or a stated time limit.
1. Bikes, cargo bikes and trikes
Dutch Cargo Bike Australia does not accept returns, exchanges or refunds on complete bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes or trikes for change of mind.
This includes where the customer no longer wants or needs the bike; selects the wrong model, size, colour or specification; finds the product cheaper elsewhere; changes the intended use; cannot store or transport the bike; decides the bike is unsuitable after purchase where the relevant requirement was not disclosed before purchase; experiences a change in personal or financial circumstances; or does not complete a test ride before purchasing.
Customers are responsible for reviewing product specifications and confirming that the selected bike is suitable before placing an order. We recommend completing a test ride where reasonably possible and discussing any specific requirements with us before purchase, including child or passenger transport, rider height or mobility, carrying capacity, hills and riding conditions, storage space, vehicle compatibility, commercial use and intended accessories.
A bike order becomes binding once accepted by Dutch Cargo Bike Australia. Preparation may include reserving or ordering stock, assembling the bike, installing accessories, configuring software, activating electrical systems, registering components, arranging freight and allocating a Service Partner.
This no-change-of-mind policy does not affect rights under the Australian Consumer Law where a bike is faulty, unsafe, incorrectly supplied, materially different from its description or otherwise fails to meet a consumer guarantee.
2. Change-of-mind returns for parts and accessories
Dutch Cargo Bike Australia may accept a change-of-mind return for eligible parts and accessories within 14 calendar days of delivery or collection. Approval is discretionary and subject to this policy.
To qualify, the product must be unused, unworn, uninstalled and undamaged; in fully resalable condition; include its original packaging, manuals, labels and accessories; not have been assembled, fitted, modified, connected or activated; not be a special-order, customised, clearance or final-sale item; and be accompanied by acceptable proof of purchase.
Customers must contact us and receive return approval before sending or delivering a product back. Products returned without prior approval may be refused.
For an approved change-of-mind return, the customer is responsible for return freight. Original delivery, assembly and installation charges are not refundable. The product remains the customer's responsibility until received by us, and any damage, loss or reduction in value may result in the return being refused.
3. Products not accepted for change-of-mind return
The following are not eligible: complete bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes and trikes; special-order or pre-order products; products sourced specifically for a customer; customised or personalised products; accessories already installed or fitted; electrical components already connected, programmed or activated; batteries used, charged, registered or activated; used chargers; worn helmets or personal safety equipment; worn or washed clothing; installed child seats or passenger-carrying products; registered or used locks; software, subscriptions, licences or activation codes; disclosed clearance, final-sale or ex-display items; products with damaged, incomplete or missing packaging; products damaged through misuse, neglect or incorrect installation; and products that cannot reasonably be resold for health, hygiene or safety reasons.
A clearance or final-sale designation does not remove rights under the Australian Consumer Law where a product is faulty or otherwise fails to meet a consumer guarantee.
4. Order cancellations
Contact Dutch Cargo Bike Australia as soon as possible if you wish to cancel an order.
An order cannot ordinarily be cancelled once stock has been specially ordered or reserved; assembly or preparation has commenced; accessories have been installed; electrical systems or software have been activated; the product has been registered; freight has been booked; the order has been dispatched; or the product has been delivered to a Service Partner.
Where we agree to cancel an order before fulfilment as a goodwill exception, we may deduct reasonable costs already incurred, including non-refundable supplier charges, freight and handling costs, assembly or workshop costs, accessory installation costs and other direct non-recoverable expenses. No cancellation fee will override any remedy required under the Australian Consumer Law.
5. Faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied products
Contact us promptly where a product is faulty or defective, unsafe, arrives damaged, is materially different from its description, does not perform as represented, is not fit for a purpose disclosed before purchase, is missing components or is different from the product ordered.
Please provide your name and contact details, order number or proof of purchase, a clear description of the issue, photographs or video where relevant, the bike frame number or product serial number where applicable, and details of when and how the issue occurred.
We may ask you to stop using the product while it is assessed. Do not ride, charge, repair, modify or continue using any bike, battery or electrical component that may be unsafe.
6. Australian Consumer Law remedies
Where a product does not meet a consumer guarantee, the available remedy depends on the circumstances and whether the problem is major or minor.
For a minor problem, the supplier may generally choose to repair the product free of charge within a reasonable time. For a major problem, the customer may generally be entitled to reject the product and choose a refund or replacement, subject to the Australian Consumer Law.
A problem may be major where the product would not have been purchased by a reasonable customer had they known about the problem; is substantially unfit for its normal purpose and cannot easily be made fit within a reasonable time; is substantially unfit for a disclosed purpose and cannot easily be made fit within a reasonable time; differs significantly from its description, sample or demonstration model; or is unsafe.
Consumer guarantees may continue to apply beyond a manufacturer's stated warranty period, depending on the nature, price, quality and expected lifespan of the product.
7. Product assessment
Dutch Cargo Bike Australia may inspect and assess a product before determining whether it is faulty and what remedy is appropriate.
Assessment may be completed at our Moorabbin premises, by a Dutch Cargo Service Partner, by the manufacturer or Australian distributor, through remote diagnosis using photographs, video or diagnostic data, or at another agreed service location.
Assessment timeframes depend on the nature of the issue, technical complexity, parts availability, manufacturer involvement and the customer's location. We will aim to provide an outcome within a reasonable time.
8. Repairs
Where repair is the appropriate remedy, Dutch Cargo Bike Australia may repair the product directly, arrange repair through a Service Partner, arrange assessment or repair by the manufacturer or distributor, replace a faulty component, install an equivalent or updated component, or provide another remedy required by law.
Where the product has failed to meet a consumer guarantee, the repair will be provided without charge as required by the Australian Consumer Law. Normal servicing, adjustments, wear and tear, maintenance and accidental damage are not ordinarily considered product faults.
9. Return and transport costs for faulty products
Contact us before arranging transport for a bike, cargo bike, trike or lithium-ion battery.
Where a product has failed, or is reasonably likely to have failed, to meet a consumer guarantee, Dutch Cargo Bike Australia will arrange or reimburse reasonable return transportation costs where required by law.
For large or difficult-to-transport products, we may arrange assessment through a nearby Service Partner, organise collection, provide freight instructions or nominate an authorised repair location.
We may not reimburse freight or transportation costs arranged without our approval where those costs were unnecessary or unreasonable. Where assessment confirms the product is not faulty and has not failed to meet a consumer guarantee, the customer may be responsible for reasonable inspection, transport and redelivery costs, where permitted by law and communicated in advance.
10. Transit damage
Inspect all products as soon as reasonably possible after delivery or collection. Where a shipment appears damaged, photograph the external packaging before opening it, photograph the product and all visible damage, retain the packaging, labels and freight documents, note the damage with the carrier where possible, and contact Dutch Cargo Bike Australia promptly.
Reporting visible transit damage within 48 hours helps us submit a carrier claim. This requested reporting period does not remove or limit rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Do not ride, assemble, charge or use a product that may have been damaged in transit until you have contacted us.
11. Incorrect or missing products
Contact us promptly if you receive the wrong product, an item is missing, the product differs from your order confirmation, or tracking shows delivery but the shipment has not been received. We will investigate the issue with the carrier, warehouse or Service Partner and provide an appropriate resolution.
12. Proof of purchase
We may require reasonable proof of purchase before processing a claim, return, repair, replacement or refund. Acceptable proof may include a tax invoice, order confirmation, email receipt, bank or card statement, customer account record or another record showing the product was purchased from us.
13. How to request a return or remedy
Before returning any product, contact us by phone on 1300 414 843 or email info@dutchcargobike.com.au. Please provide your order number, the product concerned and the reason for contacting us.
Once the request has been assessed, we will confirm whether the product should be returned to our Moorabbin premises, taken to a nominated Service Partner, collected by a carrier or sent to another authorised service location.
Do not send a complete bike, cargo bike, trike or lithium-ion battery without receiving written return or transport instructions.
14. Return address
Approved returns may be directed to Dutch Cargo Bike Australia, Unit 1B, 273-275 Wickham Road, Moorabbin VIC 3189, Australia. Products must not be returned to this address without prior approval.
15. Packaging
Approved returns must be packaged appropriately to prevent damage during transport. Where possible, use the original packaging.
A change-of-mind return may be refused where packaging is missing or materially damaged, the product is not adequately protected, components, manuals or accessories are missing, or the product is damaged during return transport. Different arrangements may apply where Dutch Cargo Bike Australia organises the return of a faulty or damaged product.
16. Refund processing
Once an approved return has been received and assessed, we will notify the customer of the outcome. Approved refunds will generally be processed within 5-10 business days and ordinarily returned to the original payment method.
Banks and payment providers may require additional time before funds appear. Where the original payment method is unavailable, we may request additional identification or banking details before processing the refund.
17. Exchanges for eligible parts and accessories
An eligible part or accessory may be exchanged within the 14-day change-of-mind period, subject to prior approval, product eligibility, availability of the replacement product and compliance with this policy.
For a change-of-mind exchange, the customer is responsible for return freight, delivery of the replacement product and any difference in price. Complete bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes and trikes are not eligible for change-of-mind exchanges.
18. Incorrect product selection
Customers are responsible for confirming compatibility, sizing, dimensions and suitability before ordering. We recommend contacting us before purchasing replacement batteries, chargers, electronic components, child-carrying accessories, bike-specific racks or fittings, locks, drivetrain components or products requiring professional installation.
An incorrectly selected product may only be returned under the change-of-mind provisions where it remains eligible, unused and fully resalable.
19. Normal wear, maintenance and misuse
A repair, replacement or refund will not ordinarily be available where an issue is caused by normal wear and tear, inadequate servicing or maintenance, accident or crash damage, misuse or neglect, overloading, corrosion caused by inadequate care or environmental exposure, incorrect storage, unauthorised modification, incorrect installation, use contrary to manufacturer instructions, commercial or intensive use outside the product's intended purpose, damage caused by a third party, or continued use after a fault or warning became apparent.
This section does not limit rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
20. Manufacturer warranties
Some products include a manufacturer or distributor warranty. Manufacturer warranties are additional to, and do not replace, automatic consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.
Where appropriate, Dutch Cargo Bike Australia may assist with a manufacturer warranty claim. Customers may nevertheless have rights directly against Dutch Cargo Bike Australia as the retailer.
21. Google Merchant Center
For Google Merchant Center, this policy applies differently by product category: bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes and trikes have no change-of-mind returns or exchanges; eligible parts and accessories have a 14-day change-of-mind return period subject to this policy; and faulty or non-compliant products are handled in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law.
Google Merchant Center settings should match this published website policy. Separate return-policy labels or product-level settings should be used where necessary so bikes and accessories are not assigned the same return conditions.
